Two More Drum Videos

April 22nd, 2008

Had to post this nifty little trick I picked up from Jojo Mayer. The right hand may look a little strange here but Im muting the snare while playing the hi hat and rim clicks. Im also pressing the stick into the snare which causes a slight overtone when you hit the hi hats. Towards the end I am muting the snare on and off which changes the pitch/timbre slightly.

The first video shows this technique being used to play Drum n Bass/Jungle while the second one is more straight Dance/Electronica.

Left hand wise its mostly all Moeller technique for the fast 16ths and a bit of Gladstone technique for the singles and doubles. Im also trying to learn a bit of KJ Sawka’s technique too, he has such a nice touch on the snare that seems to suit the genre better. Check him out if you havnt already, sick!

New Drum Video

April 17th, 2008

Sorry I havnt posted a video for a while. Still need to get a better camera but my new phone seems to have slightly better audio than the previous videos, the quality is still pretty crap though lol. Anyway, hopefully getting a digital camera soon so hopefully that will be better.

The kit Im playing has sadly seen better days. Its the practise/teaching kit at Greenbank Music Village where I work and its in dire need of some new skins. But hey, a bad workman blames his tools.

Drumming wise, Ive been hugely into Gospel Music for a few years now and Im hoping some of that awesome drumming style is beggining to creep into my playing. Search for “gospel drums” to see how its really done, theres some seriously sick drummers out there.

The Turkey Song

December 16th, 2007

A good friend of mine Fran Bove of Ampthill, Bedfordshire has written a comedy Christmas song about a turkey and has recorded it in a quite unconventional way, all to raise money for Breast Cancer Care, the UK’s leading provider of breast cancer information and support. Lewis played drums for the recording along with members of New Groove Formation and other local bands/friends including The Measure, The Gits, The Ramblers, August and Thereafter and The Rats.

To raise money, Fran’s song will be released on general download on 17th December from www.theturkeysong.com.

Fran said of the project: “With the generous support of Carousel Sound Lab who have donated their time and facilities for free and a whole host of local musicians we have recorded a song about a turkey called Fred and his journey from farm to plate! The special thing about the recording is that each musician has heard the track and then added their own parts with almost no direction making it a very fluid project. I have chosen to support Breast Cancer Care by donating all proceeds from the sales because my mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently underwent surgery. She received such great help and support from breast cancer care that I decided to give something back.”

Murray Lindo, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Breast Cancer Care said: “We are delighted that Fran is releasing this single for Breast Cancer Care. Every contribution makes a difference and funds raised will go towards ensuring that Breast Cancer Care can continue to offer vital support to women and men with breast cancer, their families and friends.” For any breast cancer concerns contact Breast Cancer Care’s free helpline on 0808 800 6000 open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-2pm or visit www.breastcancercare.org.uk

Get your music on iTunes etc

December 6th, 2007

Many fellow musicians and artists have been asking how I got my music up on iTunes and the other MP3 stores as many of you have probably noticed, these networks are not usually open to the public or small indie labels.

TuneCore is a music delivery and distribution service that gets artists’ original music (even cover versions) and record label releases up for sale on iTunes and many other MP3 stores without asking for your rights or taking any money from the sale or use of your music.
