Bass Drum/Foot Technique and Warm Up
Monday, March 12th, 2007Ive been asked a few times what pedal technique I use. Its a sort of sliding motion using the sweet spot to get enough bounce for the second note when playing doubles. The sweet spot is (usually) located 1-2 inches from the top of the pedal and it seems to bounce back quicker when playing in that area. I do not use my heel but rather make the first note on the sweet spot and the second note at the top of the pedal board. Both notes are made using the ball of my foot using my ankle. Never been a fan of double pedals so I developed this way of playing fast bass drum stuff. You can see me demo this technique on the first video.
The second video is just a warm up really but Im trying out a different camera angle. Its not my kit in these videos, Im using the teaching kit at work. I teach at Greenbank Music Village in luton. For some reason the snare restrainer keeps coming off every now and then and the bass pedal aint the greatest. But hey, a bad workman blames his tools!
